When You're Quiet
A poem about quiet assumptions

When you’re quiet
Words are fashioned for you
And you’re expected to put
Them on and wear them around
Getting strange reactions about
How sad you must feel
Or how lovely your life must be
Or why you should sleep more
None of these words fit quite right
(Except for maybe the sleepy bit)
So maybe I should start making
My own clothes? Or at least
Not stretching these out…
So today, I’ll go with
Some comfy pajamas and try
Something new on tomorrow
If we would stop putting words in other people's mouths, or persecute them for failure to use many words, we would have neighborhood's with swimming pools on Mars by now.
