Simple Things
This brave new world allows
me to live in the future,
but never the present.
Taking bits and bytes
At a time to feed my
Hungry soul with a
Scroll of faces more
Beautiful than mine,
And lives of adventure,
Excitement, and books
On antique furniture
Next to what look
Like finely manicured
Espressos. I’m drinking
A coffee, black. Not even
A morsel of foam.
But simple things have a
Way of satisfying me,
Even if they are not
at all photogenic.
They’re just happy to
Be what they are
And live in the present.
How very old-fashioned.
