Father in heaven, I’ve grown so accustomed to this world’s Frail, fickle, fainting love That I’ve failed to rest in Your Preceding, persevering, powerful love. You are my fortress. As I wake to virtual worlds that beckon for my fingertips, Remind me that my roots go into the earth, For it is full of Your steadfast love. You satisfy me. Before evil prevails upon me, Remind me that Your love precedes me And surrounds me And endures all the day. You are my shield. Don’t let me forget who I am in Christ And how great Your love is for me. Every thought, gift, moment is a breadcrumb That leads me to the cross of Christ. You are the rock of my salvation, Slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Amen.
This poem is modeled on the section titled, “Relocate the True Story Each Morning” in Zack Eswine’s (
) book: Wiser with Jesus1 (pp. 144–146).Series Introduction
Sabbath Prayers is a series of written prayers that go live on Sundays (or Saturday night). For me, written prayers work like a defibrillator for my heart. Sometimes I need help putting truth into words. I hope these prayers help give you honest words and a true sense of God’s love. They are written for you (and me).
If you've been pilgrimaging with me and enjoying these posts, you may want to leave a small token of appreciation. I’m happy to give these writings free of charge, so there’s no pressure.
