Riding Through a Storm

A poem for long suffering

It’s so hard to remember that
We’re riding through a storm

When we haven’t seen the sun
For as long as we remember

And it feels like this shivering darkness
Will be our blanket forever

And these crashing waves
Will be our new gentle waters

Tie us to this mast
So we don’t look back

Make us fit because
Our strength is failing

Every now and then
I see the albatross

And I hear the whisper,
“Courage, dear heart”

It’s so hard to remember that
We’re riding through a storm

A storm that will end.
