God’s covenant promise
Spread far over the field as
We stood small and speechless
Watching its parade of color
The kids wondered if
They could touch it
(Or maybe find some gold?)
A lecture simply wouldn’t do
Only an impromptu chase
That left us breathless
As the rainbow used its
Two long legs to outrun us
We never found the gold
Of those crafty leprechauns
But the treasure of that memory
Makes a fine substitute
