Hello
Every hello right now seems to have
A hint of pain in it
And yet we still talk about the weather,
So I guess I’ll give it a try.
Let me talk about the weather—
How this rain keeps falling
As we wait for the end under Elijah’s juniper tree
With a faltering hope for some angel to bring us food.
I’ll talk about the weather—
How this biting cold makes us feel so numb
As we wait for the sun to run its course with joy
And bring new mercies in the morning.
Let me talk about the weather—
How there are seasons and this is one is winter,
And after this long cold, spring appears
Bringing resurrected life.
There is a time for everything
And for now, it is a painful hello.
